Summer Academy 2021

Plans for Summer Academy 2021 are well underway!  Summer Academy 2021 offers a unique opportunity for our currently enrolled Pre-K to Grade 5 students.  At no cost to HCPS families, learners have the opportunity to receive teacher-led, in person or virtual learning in literacy and mathematics, along with social emotional learning.  Reading and math activities will include whole class instruction in addition to small group instruction to meet students’ individual needs.


Elementary Summer Academy learning is Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  July 12 to August 5.  Families have the flexibility to attend the entire four weeks, or they may attend a two-week session, July 12-July 22 or July 26-August 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Breakfast and lunch will be served.  Shady Grove students will attend Colonial Trail Elementary for Summer Academy.  Transportation to Colonial Trail will be provided from Shady Grove.  Parents will be required to transport their students to and from Shady Grove.

Kindergarten Registration for 2021-2022 School Year

We are excited to welcome the class of 2034 to SGES! Kindergarten online registration begins on April 12. Families will start the process by completing the online portion for registration at  This page will also list the information required for registration.

After completing your online registration, please sign up for an appointment at  Appointments will be held on Wednesday, April  21, April 28, and May 5 from 12:00pm-4:00pm.  Once you have signed up, our registrar will email you to let you know the additional information needed prior to your appointment.

Only one adult (and an interpreter if necessary) will be permitted to attend the appointments.  Everyone will be required to wear a mask and remain socially distant during the appointment.  Please do not bring students to this appointment.  We will offer an opportunity for students to visit the school at a later time.

Office Hours

Until further notice, our office hours will be 7:30 am-4:00 pm.  According to the HCPS COVID-19 Health plan, parents/guardians must have an appointment to enter the building.  Anyone who enters the building must wear a mask, answer screening questions, and have their temperature taken.

Curbside Pickup for Library books

The Shady Grove library is OPEN for drive-thru Curbside pick-up!    Request books using this google form. You will be contacted via Schoology messenger, email, phone or text when your book is ready to be picked up.(It will ask you your contact preference in the form.)  Books can be picked up in the front loop between 8:30am and 3pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  (Please try to avoid the dismissal window of 1-1:30pm on those days.) Signs will direct you to phone the Library to let us know you’ve arrived, and we’ll bring your books out to you.

Shady Grove Family Portal

Online Registration open for Kindergartners and other new HCPS students

Registration for the 2020-21 school year is now open for kindergartners, as well as new students entering grades 1-12.  In order to help slow the spread of coronavirus, HCPS is conducting registration online, rather than in person. Register your new student with his or her school using the new HCPS Online Registration portal.

  1. Go to, where you’ll find a link to the registration portal, as well as instructions and information about the documents you’ll need to register your student.
  2. Click the button to go to the HCPS Online Registration portal.
  3. Complete the three forms available in the portal:
    • Enrollment Form (parts 1 and 2).
    • Home Language Survey.
    • McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act screening form.
  4. Upload the additional documents spelled out on our registration page.
  5. Submit your registration to your school online.
