Summer Office Hours and Student Registration

We are eager to support you with student registrations and other preparations for the upcoming school year, no matter what the school year ultimately looks like (those plans are still being made on a county level). For now, we want you to know that our school will have “in person” office hours from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Monday through Thursday beginning Monday, July 20.  For the purpose of ensuring the health and safety of all, we ask that you make an appointment to complete the registration process for your child. In order to complete the New Student Registration Process, parents are required to bring in the following documents:

  • Original birth certificate (even if supplied online)
  • Valid ID
  • Current utility bill (within 30 days)
  • Immunization and physical record (if student has received them)

If you did not submit any documents when enrolling online at, you will be required to also bring a lease, deed, or mortgage statement.  Unfortunately, we will be unable to accept visits without an appointment.

As a reminder, HCPS employees as well as visitors to schools are expected to wear a mask or facial covering when entering the building. When you visit to register your child, it is important that you bring and wear a mask or facial covering.

As an additional safety and health measure, please visit without your child(ren), if possible. We will have additional opportunities for you and your child to see the school in late August and September.

Please use this sign up to schedule your appointment. Information about the registration process and needed forms and documentation can be found HERE.

Announcing our new principal

Cardinal Nation,

We are pleased to announce Mrs. Ellen Guidry as the next amazing principal for Shady Grove Elementary School, taking effect on July 1st.  Mrs. Guidry has made a substantial impact on the teaching and learning that happens at our school in the short year that she has been part of the leadership team. Her background experience in multiple divisions, leadership opportunities at all levels ranging from the division to the state arena, and her local community footprint provide the right skill set to lead our National Blue Ribbon school community.  We are very excited that Ellen will continue the momentum and vision that makes our school so unique and special.

COVID-19: An important announcement

Concern about COVID-19 (coronavirus) has created a rapidly evolving environment where changes are being made quickly in the interest of public health.

Starting Monday, March 16, Henrico County Public Schools will be closed for students for two full weeks of school (through Friday, March 27). We will continue to assess the situation, and decide later if we need to extend this period of closure.

We realize this creates many questions about how students will continue their learning. We have a thorough plan in place, and detailed information about student learning will be communicated in a separate message.

Our teachers and staff will use Monday, March 16, to continue their preparations. “Virtual learning” experiences (digital and non-digital) will be available to students of all grade levels starting on Tuesday, March 17.

During this unprecedented experience, we will continue to do everything possible to ensure the health and safety of our community. The HCPS Facilities and Pupil Transportation departments will conduct additional cleaning of school buildings and buses, and continue to assess the best cleaning practices.

Additionally, for many of our students, the meals provided at our schools are a crucial part of their daily nutrition. Additional plans are being made to address this vital need across the Henrico Community.

Please know that this is not a decision that we make lightly. We realize that any change to educational schedules is disruptive and inconvenient. However, our priority must always be the health and safety of our students, staff members and community.

Again, more details about student learning will be forthcoming in separate communications. Visit the “COVID-19” page on our website for full information from HCPS.
